Make Your Own Flour Tortillas

I have made and tried many, many, different versions of flour tortillas.  Most are okay; few are spectacular.  This recipe might just be one of my favorites.

The fat used in this recipe to pull together the other ingredients is melted butter.  This is my first recipe (for flour tortillas) that uses melted butter.  Most call for lard, for oil, for shortening, etc.

Try these out! Perfect to be used for pretty much anything.  Can be used for wraps, shredded meat, just with a little butter/sour cream! Try it out! :D

Flour Tortillas:
(recipe modified from frenchpress)

Ingredients:
  • 2 cups of flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 3/4 cup water
  • 3 Tablespoons butter (melted)

Directions:
  1. Combine and mix together all ingredients.
  2. Let dough rest for 10 minutes - cover with towel/plastic wrap.
  3. Pinch off pieces of dough (~8, depending on how large/small you want the tortillas to be) and roll out on a lightly floured surface.
  4. Cook tortillas on a non-greased skillet/frying pan on each side; sides will brown slightly and bubble.
Notes:
  • Double the batch in order to eat some right away and to store a few in the fridge!

See you in the kitchen!

Katie
