I work as a housing professional at a university. I manage a building of graduate students. This means that part (and perhaps the most important part) of my responsibility is to create a fun, safe, and welcoming environment in my building. To create a space where residents feel free to pursue their academic endeavors as well as to meet other residents and engage in a fun and lively community. This includes making what we call 'door decs' or door decorations. These adorn each apartment door. I have fun with these, but because I am not particularly crafty, I spend way toooo much time cutting and gluing. Well, my husband was away for TWO AND A HALF weeks at the beginning of a new semester so I needed to fill my time. So on one Saturday I sat down in front of the TV with my scissors, paper, glue, etc. ready to spend the day watching over five Disney cartoon movies on the tube. Needing some inspiration, I browsed pinterest and found these cute owls. I ended up making over 30+ of these owls. I realized that I could also use them as fun cards for family and friends! If I can do this, anyone can!
I was watching youtube videos about learning to knit for beginners and came across something called "arm-knitting". There are plenty of video tutorials about arm-knitting your own infinity scarves and blankets.
This will be filed under future projects! Definitely want to try these out. Looks like all you need is the yarn and your arms!
For this project, the lady uses 3 skeins of "bulky 5" yarn and her arms!

I have never been the crafty type. But I want to be.
So, with the little extra time that I have on my hands, while not currently working a full-time job, I have free license to explore my creative side.
My most recent project involved making some homemade cards. What?! Most of the cards that I make are really just notes written on notebook paper. Well, that's where the Personal Electronic Cutter comes in.
It drastically improves upon my hand-written letters, hand-drawn circles, etc. It is dye-cutting to a whole other level! This machine comes from Cricut. This machine will allow me to make the most beautiful bulletin boards that I have only dreamed about. I currently work in housing with a university and making door decs, bulletin boards, are a standard and quite regular part of the job. I am so very excited to get started and transforming the building into a dye-cut wonderland! Wo! And yes, I have worked in housing for a long time :D
Using a George and Basic Shapes cartridge, I created the below cards! My very first experience with this machine! After a couple... of hours on Pinterest, I realized that there are many, many ways to utilize the shapes that this cartridge has to offer - I think you can even go online to the Cricut site and download their software program! So excited to keep going!
